The graduate are competent range managers capable of managing, provide advisory and consultancy services to improve productivity of rangelands, resolve rangeland conflicts, rehabilitate degraded rangelands, monitor range health trends, pasture establishment and management for health and sustainable pastoral systems. The graduates are entrepreneurs, planners, conservationists and managers of ecologically acceptable range management for economic gain
ABOUT PROGRAMME
LEARNING OUTCOME
At the end of the programme the candidate should be able to:
- Apply various range improvement principles to rehabilitate degraded rangelands
- Engage various pastoral groups in range development activities
- Conduct surveys for determination of range health and trends
- Perform different pasture management practices
- Apply biodiversity concepts for range health monitoring
- Develop appropriate and sustainable rangeland use plans
- Develop strategies to come up with ecologically sound solutions to Range related problems
- Carryout various forage conservation operations and appropriate dry season feeding strategies
- Use integrated knowledge from various disciplines to respond to conceptualizations of the environment and address a variety of range related problems by efficient means.
Learn to manage rangelands for welfare of animals and the environment.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Two principal passes (4 points) in the following subjects: Biology, Agriculture, Chemistry, Physics, Advanced Mathematics or Geography OR Diploma in Range Management, Animal Husbandry and Production, Animal Health, Agriculture, Forestry or Wildlife Management with an average of “B” or a minimum GPA of 3.0. In addition, an applicant must have a minimum of “D” grade in two science subjects at O-Level.
