Students’ Accommodation Services

Students’ accommodation services at Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) are coordinated by the Sokoine University of Agriculture Staff Housing and Students’ Accommodation Bureau (SUAHAB). SUA has a number of hostels for both undergraduate and postgraduate students. The hostels are located on all campuses: Mizengo Pinda Campus (MPC), Edward Moringe Campus (EMC), and Solomon Mahlangu Campus (SMC). The hostels have rooms of various sizes and are equipped with decent facilities. Rooms in the University hostels are furnished with beds, mattresses, tables, and chairs. Undergraduate rooms accommodate 2, 3, 4, or 6 students, while postgraduate students are provided with single rooms.

Students are allocated rooms after applying for accommodation in accordance with the Sokoine University of Agriculture Staff Housing and Students’ Accommodation Policy (2018) and its guidelines.

Students are not allowed to remove any fittings from the rooms and are responsible for the proper care of all property found within them. Any damage or loss must be reported immediately to the Warden/Bureau Coordinator.

The Students’ By-Laws and the Students’ Accommodation Policy and Guidelines (2018) outline all accommodation-related disciplinary offences.

Students’ Accommodation Priority

According to the SUA Staff Housing and Students’ Accommodation Policy (2018) and its guidelines, the priority categories for allocating accommodation to undergraduate students are:

  1. Students with physical disabilities or health problems approved by the Resident Medical Officer
  2. Foreign students
  3. First-year students
  4. Female students
  5. Final-year students
  6. Continuing students

NB: There is no priority criterion for postgraduate students.

Accommodation Application Procedures

  1. Log in to your student account and go to the accommodation menu.
  2. Fill in all required details accurately.
  3. Pay your accommodation fee immediately after receiving the control number.
  4. Upon arrival at SUA, proceed to the hostel allocated to you, where you will be shown your room after receiving the mattress and room key.

NB: You are advised to do self-registration process before coming to SUA

Accommodation Fees

Accommodation fees vary depending on the student category (undergraduate or postgraduate) and the hostel.

A. Postgraduate Programs

Rooms are not shared. The accommodation fee is TShs. 1,800,000.00 per student per year, plus a non-refundable depreciation fee of TShs. 20,000.00 (for first-year students only). Total payment:

  • Local students: TShs. 1,820,000.00 per year
  • International students: USD 1,800 per year

All payments must be made in a single instalment.

B. Undergraduate and Non-Degree Programs

Rooms are shared by two to six students.

i. First-Year Students

  • International students: Two students per room; accommodation fee is USD 140 per student per year.
  • Local students: TShs. 189,550.00 per bed per year plus a non-refundable depreciation fee of TShs. 10,000.00.

ii. Continuing and Final-Year Students

  • International students: Accommodation fee is USD 140 per student per month.
  • Local students: Total annual payment is TShs. 174,140.00 for Main Campus hostels, Nicholas A. Kuhanga, Ex-NBC Flats, and Solomon Mahlangu Campus.

C. Mizengo Pinda Campus (MPC)

The accommodation fee is TShs. 181,000.00 per student per year plus a non-refundable depreciation fee of TShs. 10,000.00. Total payment:

  • First-year students: TShs. 191,000.00
  • Continuing students: TShs. 176,800.00

Payments may be made in one or two instalments.

Room Reservation for International Students (Academic Year 2025/2026)

A room can be reserved by paying at least half (one semester’s fee) or the full annual accommodation fee.

Accommodation During Long Vacation

a. Students attending field practicals, study tours, or other academic activities:

  • SUA local students: TShs. 1,250.00 per day per bed
  • Local students from other institutions: TShs. 1,350.00 per day per bed
  • International students: USD 1.7 per day per bed

b. Non-students attending official duties such as seminars, conferences, games, or sports at SUA or in Morogoro Municipality:

  • TShs. 6,500.00 per day per bed
