The department of Chemistry and Physics was found in July 2017 from the former department of Physical Sciences as a result of restructuring of various units in the entire university. This department was formed in order to increase efficiency in utilizing human, financial, physical, and time resources; to increase effectiveness by creating a synergy in the provision of training, research, consultancies and outreach services to clients including students, education sectors, farmers and the community at large; and to promote and enhance succession and mentorship in the specialized disciplines
The Department of Chemistry and Physics is dedicated to conducting teaching, research, consultancy, outreach and innovation activities in the fields of analytical, physical, organic, environmental and inorganic chemistry, mechanics, magnetism, electricity, thermal physics, optics, waves and vibrations, medical physics, electronics, thermodynamics, and atmospheric physics
