The one-day practical training was conducted as part of the department's initiative to encourage and build a good foundation for students from the grassroots to love science subjects.

Explaining the objectives of the training, the Head of the Department of Chemistry and Physics, Dr. Faith Mabiki said it has been their practice as scientists to build strong foundations for students to love science subjects and they have been doing so through visiting various primary and secondary schools and sometimes they have been gathering students from different schools in one place for the same purpose.

Among the scientists from SUA, who were involved in the training, Aneth Coster said they had successfully taught the students how to do various scientific experiments thus enabling them to better understand what they were being taught at their school.

Ms. Aneth said a total of 10 scientific experiments were conducted by standard four to seven students in groups to enable each one to participate with their hands and learn more closely.

The school's headmistress Sister Rose N. Mwaluko expressed her admiration for the practice by SUA scientists as it enables students to learn things in more detail than they did in class and also builds their ability to do better in their exams and other things scientifically.

Ikunda Amini Kweka, a 12-year-old standard seven student at the school, described how she had learned many things she did not know before and found this training very useful as it has helped them learn many things in practice and she wants this to be done more often.
