SUA students dominate the top ten in the 11th National Essay Writing Competition, organized by the Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS).

The winner was revealed at ARSO-Day (African Organization for Standardization) today, March 28, 2024, at TBS headquarters in Dar es Salaam, presided over by Chief Judge Dr. Ashura Katunzi. The event was opened by the Director General of TBS, Dr. Athuman Ngenya, and the guest of honor was Ubungo DC, Honourable Hassan Bomboko, representing Dar es Salaam RC Albert Challamila.

Five out of the 10 best students were from SUA. The competition was announced on November 30, 2023, and a total of 390 students from 34 different universities and colleges in Tanzania and Zanzibar participated in the competition. 

The top five students will participate in the International ARSO Essay Competition that will take place in Nigeria later this year. Every year, ARSO comes up with themes, and students write essays based on those themes. This year's theme was “Empowering consumers through standardization to achieve their rights to safe, quality goods and services.”

The first winner, was second-year BSc. Food Science and Technology Essau Samson Nyambaye, won a prize of one million three hundred thousand. Other students are Bareto Happy Malisa (4^th-position), BSc. Human Nutrition; Amimu Abdalatifu Hakimu (7th), BSc. Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness; David Mugisha (8th), BSc. Animal Science, and Everius M. Constantin (9th), BSc. Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness. The complete list of the top ten students and their institutions is shown in Table 1.
