Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) received and hosted the family of the late Dr. Steven Mwakalinga on 10th February, 2026. The widow of the deceased, Ms. Edith Chenga Chamwi accompanied by her two daughters, Lisa (14 years) and Norah (7 years), travelled all way from Copenhagen in Denmark to Morogoro in Tanzania on a special mission to fulfill the promise made by Dr. Mwakalinga before he passed away.

“In his last days before he passed on, Dr. Steven told us: one day I will take you back to Tanzania so that I can show you my best institution, Sokoine University of Agriculture of Agriculure, where I spent my academic and social life for five years” Edith explained. Such a promise inspired the family to organize a trip to SUA so that they could honour the husband and father’s promise. Dr. Mwakalinga is a former student at SUA who pursued the Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine (BVM) from 1997 to 2002.
The family was also accompanied by friends including the family of Mr. Lars Waskiw Rasmussen comprising him, his wife Tina and two sons, Samwel and Benjamin. Other friends were Mr. Benjamin Pedersen, Pastor Necksan William and; Prof. Faith Mabiki and her son Jean-Abdom Omath. With support of Dr. Mwakalinga’s classmate, Dr. Shaabani Mshamu of SUA, the family paid visit to the late Dr. Mwakalinga classroom at the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (CVMBS) and his accommodation in Hostel No. 1 Room 3 and Hostel No. 4 Room 5 at the Edward Moringe Campus of SUA in Morogoro town. Dr. Mwakalinga passed away on 2nd May, 2025 and was buried in on 16th May, 2025 at the Vestre Kirkegård Copenhagen Denmark.
The family of the late Dr. Mwakalinga and the leadership of CVMBS express sincere appreciations to the SUA Management for accepting a family request to pay visit at SUA and plant a special tree in Loving Memory of Dr. Steven Mwakalinga. Lisa and Norah made a promise “We will take care of this tree which connects us with our lovely dad, we will love him forever”.
