The National Kiswahili Council (BAKITA) and the Zanzibar Kiswahili Council (BAKIZA) have not only accepted but eagerly embraced the proposal of the Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) to collaborate on standardizing agricultural terminology in Kiswahili. This collaboration, a significant milestone in developing and promoting Kiswahili in the agricultural sector, is set to revolutionize how agricultural knowledge is disseminated in Kiswahili.

Speaking to SUA Media in Mbeya on March 22, 2024, BAKITA Executive Secretary Ms. Consolata Mushi said that SUA has a good idea to help standardize these important terminologies for farmers.
She also added that the notion that Kiswahili cannot have scientific terminology is wrong because BAKITA has the ability to standardize and has already done so in various fields such as climate, environment, banking, law, and many others.
She maintained that the SUA's proposal to develop agriculture-related Kiswahili terminology is vital in promoting the language, which is currently spoken by more than five million people worldwide.
On the other hand, Dr. Mwanaija Omary, the Executive Secretary of the Zanzibar Kiswahili Council, highlighted the practical benefits of the cooperation between BAKITA, BAKIZA, and SUA. She emphasized that the standardized vocabulary developed through this collaboration will enable farmers to communicate more effectively in Kiswahili, thereby enhancing the spread of the language.
 

Dr. Mwanaija further explains that SUA is one of the country's largest educational institutions and serves as a role model for the idea that it will help farmers develop fluent agriculture vocabulary in communication using the Kiswahili language.
Speaking during the Conference, Dr. Onesmo Nyinondi, representing the Vice Chancellor of Sokoine University of Agriculture, Prof. Raphael Chibunda, announced that SUA, the country's largest agricultural institution, is taking the lead in collaborating with BAKITA and BAKIZA to develop agriculture-related Kiswahili terminology.
 

He also mentioned that in addition to these efforts, the university uses its SUA Media, including radio, social media, and television, to convey research and discoveries using simple Kiswahili language to the audience.
