SUA awards 149 Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates in the very first Mid-Year graduation

A total of 149 graduates have been awarded the Bachelor's Degree, Diploma, and Certificate of Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) during the 37th Mid-Year Graduation ceremony which took place on Friday, May 28th, 2021 at the SUA Main Campus Sports Grounds from around 10:00 am to 1:00 pm.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony, Vice Chancellor Prof. Raphael Chibunda said among the graduates the number of men is 92 which is equal to 61.8 percent and the number of women is 57 which is equal to 38.2 percent.

Prof. Chibunda went on to say that a total of 15 students have been awarded a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree of which 15 are men and 10 women, 51 students were awarded Master's Degrees where 23 men and 28 women

​​​​​​​In addition, Prof. Chibunda urged the graduates to use their achievements as a catalyst for wealth creation and national development in the various economic sectors in which they will be involved.

"We hope that this success will be a catalyst for wealth creation and better services, we urge you to go and be good ambassadors of our university, go and use the knowledge and skills you have acquired to be creative, entrepreneurs and if possible, create jobs for others", said Prof. Chibunda.

Earlier speaking at the graduation, the Chairman of the Council of Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) Hon. Retired Chief Justice Mohamed Othman Chande said the council has continued to fulfill its responsibility of overseeing SUA Management in ensuring they carry out its responsibilities as well as implementing the university's Strategic Plan.

"In this period since the last Graduation, we have been able to implement the university's Strategic Plan, approve the university budget, make appointments of various leaders and others", noted Hon. Chande.

This is the 37th Sokoine University of Agriculture Graduation ceremony since its beginning in 1984, but this is the first time to be held in the middle of the year since the university Council approved the idea of holding 2 graduation ceremonies in a year with the aim of providing an opportunity for students who graduate at the beginning of the year to graduate early instead of waiting for the end of the year.
