794 Graduates Awarded Degrees at SUA

A total of 794 graduates from Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) across 77 academic programs have been awarded degrees, including 495 men and 299 women.

During the 45th mid year graduation ceremony held at the Edward Moringe Campus attended by various dignitaries, including SUA Chancellor Hon. Retired Judge Joseph Sinde Warioba and Vice Chancellor Prof. Raphael Chibunda it was announced that 299 women graduated, representing 37.7% of all graduates.

794 Graduates Awarded Degrees at SUA5Prof. Chibunda reported that 677 of the graduates received bachelor’s degrees, while 80 earned master's degrees (53 men and 27 women). Additionally, 25 earned doctoral degrees (17 men and 8 women), 8 received diplomas, and 4 earned certificates.

This was the first graduation held since the appointment of Hon. Andrew William Massawe as the new Chairperson of the SUA Council by the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, H.E. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, for a four-year term starting May 6, 2025.

794 Graduates Awarded Degrees at SUA2Prof. Chibunda highlighted that this appointment reflects the President’s trust in Mr. Massawe’s leadership. On behalf of the university's management and community, he pledged full cooperation to ensure significant institutional progress.

“We should be proud of the continued success we achieve every year in strengthening the country’s workforce. SUA staff, academics, and administrators work hard to push the university forward. Graduating from SUA has never been easy,” said Prof. Chibunda.

Meanwhile, the Vice Chairperson of the SUA Council, Ms. Dorothy Mwanyika representing the Council Chairperson highlighted that since the 44th graduation held on October 17, 2024, the Council has been actively overseeing university operations and approving key decisions to enhance institutional performance.

794 Graduates Awarded Degrees at SUA6These activities include reviewing the 2024/25 budget, approving the 2025/26 estimates, accepting the 2023/24 external audit report (which earned a clean audit), and endorsing key policies and operational guidelines. The Council also reviewed the HEET Project Strategic Investment Plan (2021–2026) to ensure smooth implementation without compromising project goals.
