The Vice Chancellor of Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) Prof. Raphael Chibunda said the completion of the Multi-purpose Teaching building has solved the challenges of teaching and learning rooms at the Edward Moringe Campus.
Prof. Chibunda said this during a short event to congratulate employees who have done well for one year as part of the celebration of the World Workers' Day while the national level was planned to be held in Morogoro region.
He said the building has a capacity of accommodating more than three thousand students, workers’ offices together with laboratories. The University requested the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Hon. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan to launch that building.
"We have asked the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Hon. Samia Suluhu Hassan, if it would be nice for her to inaugurate the building because we have started using it," said Prof. Chibunda.
In addition, he said through the Project of Higher Education for Economic Reforms (HEET) SUA has received an amount of 73.6 billion shillings which is equal to 32 million US Dollars which has been divided to be used in two groups notably, 55.2 billion shillings for Edward Moringe Main Campus and an amount of 18.4 billion shillings to be used for Katavi Campus with the aim of improving education at the College.
He said that through HEET, 43 teachers from SUA have had the opportunity of scholarship to develop themselves academically in various colleges abroad, the aim of which is to improve the education provided to Higher Education Students at SUA.
On his part, the secretary and coordinator of Mei Mosi from SUA, reading the letter to the Vice-Chancellor of the College, has asked the College leadership to solve the challenges of the employees in time, including the late promotion of those with qualifications.
He has also asked not to delay the payment of various employee entitlements such as freight fares, subsistence allowances and arrears resulting from changes in service structures.
