The recent release of the Webometrics Ranking of World Universities saw Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) take the lead as the highest-ranked university in Tanzania, 39^th in Africa, and 1224^th globally. During the period of July 2022 to January 2023, the university was cited 123,276 times on the Google Scholar citation index, an increase of 4,022 citations from the previous period of January to July 2022, when it received 119,254 citations.

According to the AD Scientific Index 2023, Professor Rudovick Kazwala from SUA was ranked as the top scientist in Tanzania and 338^th in Africa. Furthermore, 30 scientists from SUA were listed among the top 100 scientists in Tanzania, highlighting the university's outstanding performance in scientific research.

In Agricultural Engineering, the university held the first place in Tanzania and 19^thin Africa with a global rank of 482.
