Prof. Chibunda was accompanied by various university leaders, including the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic) Prof. Maulid Mwatawala, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration & Finance) Prof. Amandus Muhairwa, and SUA Hospitals Resident Medical Officer, Dr. Omari Kasuwi.

Speaking at the event, Prof. Chibunda said one of the main reasons why the management made efforts to ensure the university received the vaccines was the fact that there are currently a large number of students, teachers, and other community members around the campus where their number so far reaches about 20,000 people, so the goal is to make the community safer against the disease.

For his part, Prof. Amandus Muhairwa used the opportunity to urge all SUA members to come out in large numbers to get the vaccine as well as to stop arguing and avoid misinformation about the effectiveness of the vaccines especially on social media, but listen to the instructions given by health professionals.

Earlier speaking at the event, Dr. Omary Kasuwi, described how the first wave of CORONA virus that started in 2019 and 2020 was a very difficult period for SUA Hospital, as they received about 2000 infected people and 5 of them died.

"Basically we have been able to learn what has happened in the world and especially in Europe, the deaths that occurred in 2019 and 2020 and the number of deaths in January 2021 you can see there was a slight increase and this shows this 'Delta' virus is very dangerous," said Dr. Kasuwi.
