Newly selected students to join Sokoine University of Agriculture in the 2020/2021 academic year have been advised to study hard and focus on their studies to enable them to achieve the goals and dreams they have in their lives.
The call was made on Friday 27th November 2020 by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Maulid Mwatawala on behalf of the Vice Chancellor Prof. Raphael Chibunda during the conclusion of the orientation week aimed at welcoming new students and helping them understand the SUA environment
Prof. Mwatawala urged the students to use their time well in their studies and to refrain from things that could lead to failure, postponing the studies as well as discontinuing the studies.
"Instead of waiting to fight near the final semester exams it is better to start studying hard from now on to get a higher grade in your studies", said Prof. Mwatawala
For his part, the Dean of students here at the Sokoine University of Agriculture, Mr. Pule Motshabi congratulated the newly selected first year students at the Sokoine University of Agriculture and assured them that they have made the right choice to choose SUA as it is the best University in Tanzania and Africa in general.
Another speaker at the event was the Principal of the College of Social Sciences and Humanities at SUA, Prof. Samwel Kabote, he mentioned the objective of organizing the event that was to help students to become better acquainted with the University environment, to introduce University officials and to understand the various rules and procedures set by the University to guide them.
For his part, the Director of the Undergraduate Studies, Dr. Nyambilila Amuri also urged the students to focus on their studies as well as the academic activities that they will be given and to have good discipline to achieve the goals they have set for themselves.
"The life of the Sokoine University of Agriculture is governed by the rules set to guide you student to do well in your studies and fulfill your dreams so it is for your good to follow all the rules and regulations set here at the University", said Dr. Nyambila.
In addition, Dr. Nyambila directed students to seek help and advice in the student counseling office if they face any challenge instead of staying quiet.
Expressing gratitude, Vice President of the Sokoine University of Agriculture Students Organization (SUASO) Ms. Mary Magoti, thanked the University Management for organizing such an event to welcome the newly selected first year students and introduce them to the University environment as it will help them to not be afraid of Sokoine University of Agriculture life and instead to prepare well for their studies.
She also assured the students that the students’ government is well prepared to work with them and continue to instruct them on all the important procedures they need to follow to make life at the University easier there.
The event to welcome newly selected students was held at the Nelson Mandela Freedom Square in Solomon Mahlangu Campus, Mazimbu, and was attended by students, member of staff, university management, and various invited guests
