SUA Students Shine in ANH2025 Academy Week International Conference in 2025.

SUA is proud of its three postgraduate students who shared their research findings during the 2025 ANH Academy Week, which was held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, last week.

The ANH Academy Week is a global research conference organized by the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine each year since 2016, rotating in different Asian and African countries, with this round held in Tanzania.

The conference attracts researchers, practitioners, academicians, and other stakeholders to discuss various global issues related to agriculture, nutrition, and health.

Despite being a co-host, SUA was well represented by its three students, who took part in the conference's Side Events, Learning Labs, and Oral Presentations, two PhD students, Mr. Eward Mushi (Agricultural Economics) from the Department of Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness and Ms. Victoria Kariathi (Human Nutrition) from the Department of Human Nutrition and Consumer Sciences, organized a joint Learning Lab with researchers from Tufts University, United States of America.

The Learning Lab was titled "Leveraging the Cost and Affordability of Healthy Diets for Policy Impact: Examples using Tanzania’s Food-Based Dietary Guidelines (FBDG)." Additionally, Mr. Eward Mushi delivered an oral presentation sharing research findings on the study titled "Economic Food Environment Drivers of Fruit and Vegetable Consumption in Selected Rural and Urban Tanzania:The Households’ Income Elasticity of Demand."
eward 2Mr. Eward also co-facilitated a side event, jointly organized with the ANH Academy, where he shared experiences on best practices in teaching and learning the linkages between Agriculture, Nutrition, and Health.

Another student, Ms. Rosemary Tegekanya, pursuing MSc. Food Quality and Safety Assurance in the Department of Food Science and Technology, delivered an oral presentation sharing the findings of her study titled "Assessment of Farmers' Knowledge and Practices on Safe Organophosphate Pesticides Use in Selected Vegetables from Ilala, Dar Es Salaam". SUA commends the students for making efforts to make their research contributions in this prestigious international conference, and argue all students to seize opportunities in the international scientific community.
