Sokoine University of Agriculture is taking big steps to upgrade its laboratories to international standards. This strategic move aims to boost the university’s global reputation, improve research quality, and reduce the high costs of getting export certifications for agricultural products.

Prof. Gration Rwegasira, Director of SUA's Quality Assurance Unit, shared this during a two day capacity building workshop conducted in partnership with the Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS) and Friends of Water.
The training brought together university leaders, academic department heads, and lab professionals to highlight the value of internationally accredited labs and encourage a strong culture of responsibility and professionalism.
Prof. Rwegasira emphasized that achieving international accreditation will not only enhance the performance of SUA’s labs but also produce world class graduates and researchers whose work can make a global impact.
On behalf of the Vice Chancellor, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Planning, Finance and Administration Prof. Amandus Muhairwa urged staff to apply the training in their daily work to improve lab performance and contribute to national progress.
SUA is grateful to TBS and Friends of Water for their vital support in this process. The journey toward lab accreditation marks a major leap forward in advancing research, training, and global academic collaboration.
