Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) has purchased two buses to solve transport challenges faced by students. This step has been achieved in carrying out the directives issued by the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, His Excellency, Dr. John Pombe Magufuli when he visited the university in May 2018.
Speaking during the arrival of the buses on Friday, August 23, 2019, the vice chancellor of Sokoine University of Agriculture, Prof. Raphael Chibunda said that those buses will greatly help in solving the student transportation challenge.
There has been a major transport challenge faced by our students especially those from Mazimbu Campus to attend classes here at the Main Campus as well as those attending field Practical Training, so I believe these buses will reduce if not completely eliminate the challenge. Said Prof. Chibunda
Prof. Chibunda thanked those who were involved in the procurement process and urged drivers, technicians, students and staff to take care of the buses and to ensure that they are used to facilitate students learning.
In his turn, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration and Finance), Prof. Frederick Kahimba showed that the newly purchased buses will help to reduce the maintenance costs which were used to repair the previous existed buses.
The short event was concluded by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic) Prof. Peter Gillah who thanked the entire university management for making a decision whose main aim is to improve learning environment and student performance.
