SUA and Central University of Technology (CUT) of South Africa discuss partnership

On Monday, January 31, 2022, Sokoine Univesity of Agriculture (SUA) received a delegation from the Central University of Technology (CUT) of South Africa who came to explore various opportunities for cooperation and partnership between the two institutions in academic and research matters.

Speaking at a special meeting held at the Council Chamber, Edward Moringe Campus, Vice Chancellor, Prof. Raphael Chibunda said, there are many opportunities for partnership and cooperation at SUA and they are delighted with this partnership with CUT as it will help improve the learning environment and quality of education provided at both institutions.

"The partnership we are going to establish is very important and will bring benefits especially in the areas of research that will be done in the field of agriculture, forestry, environmental science, and communication technology however trainers and students will also have the opportunity to gain new knowledge that will enable them to conduct productive research studies that will uplift African countries in various fields of development,” said Prof. Raphael Chibunda.

For his part, the Director of the Directorate of Postgraduate Studies, Research, Technology Transfer, and Consultancy, Prof. Esron Karimuribo said, SUA has many opportunities for cooperation especially in the fields of agriculture, animal science, environment, laboratories, food, forestry natural resources, nutrition, communication technology, so this partnership will bring about positive change between the two Institutions.


For his part, the leader of the delegation from CUT, Prof. Percy Sepeng, said they are generally pleased with the way the Sokoine University of Agriculture is run and provides education in various fields especially in Agriculture, environmental science and conducting various researches projects.
   
In addition, Bernard Matsoso who is Transformation Officer from CUT said, they are impressed with the system of public universities in Tanzania for how it had its identity and that they wish to learn more.

"We would like to learn from you how you deal with students as well as how you can develop different cultures and religions and more importantly how you have succeeded in making Kiswahili one of the major languages used in many parts of Africa including South Africa," said Bernard Matsoso.

The meeting resolved to establish cooperation between the two institutions in the areas of academics and research.
